Miles for a good cause (M4GC)

We - seven frequent flyers - started Miles 4 a Good Cause (M4GC) as our own initiative. Basically, we wanted to somehow “use” the miles we collect in a calendar year for a good purpose.

So, I contacted Mr. Frequent Flyer Stephan (German living everywhere), Ulrich (Dane formerly in Malaysia, now in Singapore), Andreas (Argentinean German in Munich), Pawel (from Poland, Dubai resident), Johann (Austrian in Munich) and Paul (Poland-Italy-UK mix, first in Hong Kong now in UK) and presented my idea: Change Miles 4 Money 4 Charity. We defined a factor and each of the guys counted the flown miles in one year.

Today I can proudly say: WE DID IT!

We collected money for 2 specific charities: (a planned one) called “Argentinean Schools” aimed at helping very poor communities in the north part of Argentina where having education, drinking water and electricity is a luxury nowadays. The other one spontaneously went to Haiti earthquake victims. In total we distributed almost 4 000 EUR of donations and we know the help arrived. We don’t want publicity, we just want to give a hand to the ones in need.

In 2009 we flew 750 000 miles (app. 1 200 000 km), with Stephan being the clear winner. This is the equivalent of flying more than 29 times around the world. What would we have bought if we hadn't donated the money? Maybe 130 bottles of wine, 95 dinners, 80 shirts or 40 pairs of shoes .

So, this was M4GC 2009. In 2010 we want to go over the 4 000 EUR barrier and if your friends or some frequent flyer you know would like to be part of the “team” please let me know. Registration is always open. You just have to count your miles during 2010.

Millas Para una Buena Causa (M4GC) comenzo como una iniciativa propia soportada por algunos “viajeros frecuentes” viviendo en distintas partes del mundo. Basicamente, queriamos utilizar de alguna manera las millas acumuladas durante un anio para una buena causa.

Entonces fue que contacte al Sr. Pasajero Frecuente Stephan (Aleman, viviendo en todos lados), Ulrich (Dinamarca, primero en Malasia, ahora en Singapore), Andreas (Argentino- Aleman, en Munich), Pawel (Polaco, viviendo en Dubai), Johann (Austriaco, en Munich) y Paolo (Polaco-Italiano-Ingles, primero en Hong Kong ahora en Inglaterra), y presente mi idea: Millas por Dinero para Caridad. Definimos un factor y cada uno tenia que contar sus millas en un anio.

Hoy, puedo decir con orgullo: LO LOGRAMOS!

Colectamos dinero para dos caridades especificas: (una planeada de antemano) llamada “Escuelas Argentinas” con la intencion de ayudar comunidades muy necesitadas en el norte de Argentina donde tener educacion, agua potable y electricidad es un lujo hoy en dia. El otro destinatario de la caridad fueron las victimas del terremoto de Haiti. En total hemos distribuido casi 4 000 EUR en caracter de donaciones y sabemos que la ayuda ha llegado. No queremos publicidad hacienda esto, queremos ayudar a la gente que mas lo necesita.

En 2009 volamos cerca de 1 200 000 kms, ya sabiendo que Stephan seria el ganador absolute antes de empezar. Esto equivale a dar 29 vueltas al mundo. Que podriamos haber hecho con el dinero si no lo donabamos? Comprar 130 botellas de vino, ir a cenar 95 veces, comprar 80 camisas o 40 pares de zapato.
